In the application year 2024, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill placed 5,907 students on the waitlist, with only 35 ultimately admitted, resulting in a low acceptance rate of 0.6%. This mirrors the consistency seen in 2023, where 5,776 were waitlisted with the same acceptance rate, despite one additional student admitted. The acceptance rate significantly decreased from 4.8% in 2024 when 6,132 students were offered a waitlist spot, and from 2.0% in 2022 with 5,323 waitlisted students. These figures illustrate a substantial decline in the willingness to admit from the waitlist in recent years, indicating increasing selectivity.
