What IB Score Is Needed for Cambridge? cover image

Are you an IB student who is considering applying to Univeristy of Cambridge? If so, you may be wondering what score you would need to gain admission into University of Cambridge. This post is here to outline the number of points that are needed for University of Cambridge so you can plan your studying and college applications accordingly.

What IB Score Is Needed for Cambridge?

Depending on the course, the minimum recommended score to get into Cambridge is anywhere between 41-42/45, although many admitted students often have higher grades in the range of 44-45. Achieving a minimum grade of 7, 7, and 6 in Higher Level (HL) subjects is also necessary for admission to Cambridge as these show that you are highly skilled in subjects relevant to your intended program of study. Cambridge also considers other factors such as:

  • Extracurricular activities: Extracurricular involvement shows Cambridge that you are a holistic student who could effectively manage their time between studying and participating in extracurriculars. However, unlike most colleges in the US that want to know about a wide range of extracurriculars such as music, sports, etc, Cambridge only wants to see the extracurriculars that at the most relevant to your program of study (e.g. being part of a debate club if you are applying to a law program).

  • Personal statement: Along with strong grades, you need to submit compelling personal statements as they help admissions officers see your fit for Cambridge by the way you answer the essay prompts. Personal statements for UK universities need to be formal and professional, unlike US admissions where your college essays can be more informal.

  • Recommendation letters: Strong recommendation letters can demonstrate your personal strengths, character, and potential to succeed at university. They are crucial as this shows admissions officers how likely you are to succeed at your intended program.
